When 18-year-old Butterfly McKendrick visits her uncle, a brilliant but rather eccentric inventor, she discovers he has created a Fiction Insertion Device that allows the user to insert themselves into any work of fiction. She tries it briefly with A Christmas Carol, but back home again she uses it on the kind of story she really likes spanking fiction! Inserting herself into 'Kane Court School' she finds herself dressed in full school uniform at a boys' boarding school that has recently begun to admit girls to its sixth form. Here she discovers that the cane and slipper are in frequent use by both teachers and prefects, and quickly finds herself on the receiving end of both. After a failed attempt to lose her virginity with the incredibly handsome head boy, David, she extracts herself from the story.
A week later, Butterfly uses the device again to insert herself into 'Blushing Bots for Blushing Brides' where she meets the Rev. Jack who spanks her for putting herself in danger. She accepts the job of Parish Secretary and gets to witness Rev. Jack spank a whole series of penitent women. After a while, Butterfly realises she has fallen in love with him and, despite spanking her bare bottom with a hairbrush for dressing inappropriately in church, he asks her to marry him. Rushing home, she consults her uncle regarding the consequences should she decide to accept... what will she decide to do?

I'm hesitant to give out 5 stars, so anyone reading this should understand why I only gave 4 stars. The concept is fresh and interesting (at least for me). From a realism point of view, I would have done a couple of things differently, but considering the story concept that would be absurd.like assertive female characters who know what they want and go about getting it. The plaintive, unwilling, female victim, though that can sometimes be an interesting story too, isn't in my scope of interests at the moment. My point is, this story was exactly what I was looking for and it fulfilled my wishes for the most part.
I would have liked to have read more about Butterfly having sex and that plot-line but this was not to be.
What didn't blow my skirts up was the mention that Butterfly has been interested in spankings for years, yet she is only 18 years old. This concept made me feel icky and thankfully it was only mentioned once and that concept wasn't hammered in several times and thus was easily ignored.
I completely expected the last conversation Butterfly had with her uncle, though again I would have gone in a different direction. I also was expecting a ending revelation of another sort that didn't materialize.
Contrary to Butterfly, I didn't have a clue about cliche story patterns while reading this story and thus found it quite enjoyable.
What made my brow furrow in confusion was why Butterfly was picking stories that she had read, and yet at the same time, wasn't familiar with the plot-lines or context or so it seemed (and if so, then why did she pick those stories???). It also seemed like the first girl being spanked by the dean was enjoying it or thought the whole matter a joke, but then it seemed later on that she didn't in either regard.
In spite of a couple hiccups, an enjoyable read that I would recommend.

How many times have readers wanted to put themselves into a story? This was such a fun set up. I enjoyed Butterfly’s adventures because she was in control and living a fantasy.
The lucky young woman in these stories has the good fortunate to have an eccentric inventor/uncle who creates a device that allows a reader to insert herself into a story and participate in the adventures in that story, changing it from that point on to include her naughty or prim and property acts.
Our heroine knows her Dickens but has a secret spanking fantasy that she fans with books. You guessed it. After trying out the device on a Dickens story, she decides to join in the fun in some of her favorite spanking novels and see how it feels.
I like plots with twists; Ms. Thomas is one of the best plotters going, IMHO.

I really LOVED this book!!! Though I believe it would have been so much better, if Butterfly's romance with the Pastor could have been fleshed a wee bit more. Pastors can fall in love and they love to kiss and hug, make love to and yes too, SPANK his own personal spoiled brat of a Butterfly, too!!
